In July, the island city of Qingdao is brushed by sea breezes and lapped by waves, its summer charm lingering gracefully. Amid such magnificent mountain-and-sea scenery, the northern wire and cable industry has also entered a pivotal year of upgrading, iteration, and momentum-building for progress. Copper and aluminum, as the core raw materials of the wire and cable industry, have seen wild price swings and continuous shifts in supply-demand fundamentals during the year. The uncertainty of raw-material prices has persistently tested wire and cable enterprises’ capabilities in cost control, risk hedging, and business deployment, making industrial collaboration, quality and efficiency improvement, and compliant operations the industry’s key themes for the year.
As a core growth pole and strategic hinterland of China’s wire and cable industry, the northern region, drawing on its profound industrial foundation, well-established full-chain supporting systems, and the policy empowerment from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development, has built an integrated industrial ecosystem that covers copper and aluminum raw-material processing, precision wire and cable production, new-type material R&D, and smart equipment manufacturing. Today, the region’s wire and cable industry has an annual output value exceeding 100 billion yuan, with a solid industrial base and considerable market depth and development potential. However, compared with top-tier wire and cable industry clusters such as the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta, the northern industry still faces notable shortcomings, including scattered resource distribution, insufficient deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and weak resilience of the industry chain against cyclical and price-fluctuation risks. Breaking down regional barriers, consolidating industrial synergy, and shoring up development weaknesses have become the key levers for the northern wire and cable industry to overcome bottlenecks and achieve high-quality upgrades.
Riding the trend and pooling strength to break through. To address regional industry pain points and dismantle barriers to upstream-downstream collaborative development, on July 23-24, the 2026 SMM (2nd) Northern China Wire and Cable Industry Conference, was grandly held at the Crowne Plaza Qingdao Jinshui, Shandong.
The conference featured a rich agenda packed with substantive content, covering all aspects of industrial exchange, business matchmaking, brand empowerment, and benchmarking study tours. It carefully arranged diverse core segments, including opening speeches, heavyweight keynote industry insights, industry roadshows, targeted supply-demand matchmaking, the conference dinner—Northern China Wire and Cable Industry Night, an award ceremony for outstanding partners, and on-site visits to leading benchmark enterprises (Qingdao Hanhe Cable Co., Ltd. & Shandong Wanhai Cable Co., Ltd.), building a high-standard and high-value exchange and collaboration platform for the northern wire and cable industry.
Tightly aligned with industry development trends, the conference focused on three major core topics—industrial collaboration, green and smart development, and globalization—and conducted in-depth discussions on hot topics such as copper and aluminum market trends, derivative-based risk control, the tax policy situation regarding reverse invoicing in the secondary copper and aluminum industries, new material applications, smart and intelligent manufacturing upgrades, and the emerging track of AI computing power. It aimed to forge industry consensus, integrate premium resources, and help the northern wire and cable industry shore up its weaknesses and strengthen its advantages, steadily advancing toward a new stage of high-quality development that is high-end, intelligent, compliant, and globalized.
