[Solar: Avantus energizes 200MW Aratina 1 solar project]

Published: Jul 22, 2026 16:25
US utility-scale solar and storage developer Avantus has started commercial operations at its Aratina 1 project in Kern County, California, adding 200MW of solar generation and 500MWh of battery storage to the state grid. The project is Avantus’ first operational asset as it expands into an independent power producer, with full output backed by long-term PPAs with Central Coast Community Energy and Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Aratina 1 secured more than USD 500 million in project financing and a USD 300 million tax equity commitment. SMM believes California solar-plus-storage projects remain supported by long-term PPAs and peak-shifting demand, while financing execution is becoming critical for developer expansion.
