Ukrainian miner Sukha Balka has commissioned a new 141,000 mt mine!

Published: Jul 22, 2026 13:23

In early July, the Yuvileina mine of Ukrainian mining company Sukha Balka launched a new mining area. Located at the 1420-meter level of the “Golovnyi” orebody, the area has proven ore reserves of 141,000 mt and an iron grade exceeding 59%. The mine plans to complete extraction within the next four months.

The launch of this new mining area is part of the Yuvileina mine’s ongoing effort to replenish mineable resources this year. Since the beginning of 2026, the mine has brought a total of seven new mining areas into production, with combined ore reserves of 561,000 mt. According to Sukha Balka, the new mining area is equipped with a loading platform, which helps optimize operations and allows raw material to be directly loaded into scraper equipment at the working face, improving the efficiency of subsequent mining organization.

Sukha Balka is located in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine, and consists of the Yuvileina and Frunze mines. Yuvileina mine has an annual sinter capacity of about 2.25 million mt, while Frunze mine has an annual capacity of about 1.05 million mt; its commercial ore typically has an iron grade of 56–62%, and since 2018 it has been producing high-quality products with a 64% iron grade. In 2024, Sukha Balka’s raw ore production was 1 million mt, and its commercial ore production was 917,000 mt.

[SMM Steel] Indian HRC Export Market Shows Regional Divergence
[India] Indian HRC export activity remained mixed. Stronger EU buying to secure duty-free quotas lifted offers to around 580 USD/tonne FOB and supported a booking of about 30,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, shipping disruptions in the Middle East weighed on trade, while offers to other Asian markets softened. Regional demand and logistics are expected to keep export performance uneven.

Japan imposes provisional anti-dumping duties on Chinese and Taiwanese stainless steel
Japan imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of 3.6%–42.1% on stainless steel from China and Taiwan, effective 9 July through 8 November 2026. The measure covers nickel-based cold-rolled coil, sheet and strip. The provisional duties follow an investigation into alleged dumping injuring Japan's domestic stainless producers. The action adds to a widening set of ex-China trade measures targeting stainless flat products across Asia. Final determination timing will follow the provisional period. The enforcement date (9 July) sits just outside the strict 7-day window but is included as a material recent trade measure.
