[Hyundai Steel approves Primetals' TrimRob robotic system for wire rod mill]

Published: Jul 20, 2026 17:30
Hyundai Steel has issued the final acceptance certificate to Primetals Technologies for the TrimRob robotic system at its Dangjin wire rod mill. Developed with Polytec, the system automates coil trimming and sampling for wire rods up to 20mm diameter across various grades. It replaces manual cutting near coils above 1,000°C, using vision systems and an end-effector to identify ring counts, overlaps, and tangles independently. The automation removes operators from strenuous conditions and reduces repetitive strain injuries.
