Brass Billet Operating Rates Continue to Weaken

Published: Jun 26, 2026 15:10
[SMM Brass Billet Flash] This week (June 19-25), operating rates of brass billet producers came in at 50.73%, down 1.44 percentage points WoW, largely in line with earlier expectations. Overall end-use demand remained weak in the off-season this week. Procurement paces from home appliance, hardware, and sanitary ware sectors continued to slow. Most enterprises relied solely on existing orders on hand to sustain production, and overall market transactions were sluggish. Only after copper prices fell rapidly near the end of the week did some downstream users' wait-and-see sentiment ease slightly, leading to a concentrated release of a small amount of rigid-demand orders. However, the incremental increase was limited and could not reverse the overall weak order pattern.

Copper Prices Drop: SMM Enterprises Restock Raw Materials, Finished Product Inventories Decline
On the inventory side of SMM copper wire and cable enterprises this week, companies restocked raw materials on dips, primarily by first locking in prices and then picking up goods as needed, without large-scale stockpiling, sending raw material inventories up 2.71% WoW. When copper prices initially fell, downstream customers concentrated on cargo pick-up, driving destocking of finished product inventories. The market then held a wait-and-see stance, and finished product inventories fell 1.86% WoW.
