【SMM Steel】Acindar suspends Santa Fe plant operations amid falling steel consumption

Published: Jun 22, 2026 17:15
【SMM Steel】Argentine steelmaker Acindar has halted operations at its Santa Fe plant for four days in June 2026 to reduce excess inventory amid stagnant domestic demand. Production levels are 40% below pre-2023 levels, reflecting a critical contraction reported by the Argentine Steel Chamber, with construction and manufacturing demand at historic lows. Acindar is implementing contingency measures including advance vacations and compensatory time off to manage idle capacity reaching 60% in some segments. The Argentine steel industry continues to struggle for stability amid a recession affecting the entire steel value chain.
