Rebar and Wire Rod Operating Rates Both Stable, Steady Production Expected Next Period

During the survey period (May 26–June 1), the rebar rolling line operating rate in the Central China region remained stable, while the capacity utilization rate edged up.

During the survey period (May 26–June 1), the rebar rolling line operating rate in the Central China region remained stable, while the capacity utilization rate edged up.

Specifically, an individual blast furnace steel mill in Hubei resumed production on its rebar rolling line as planned in the previous period, with more operating days this period than last, leading to a slight increase in rebar supply. On the mill inventory front, mill inventories across regions showed some divergence this week. In Hubei, market participants purchased at low prices, and steel mill inventories continued to decline. In Henan, some steel mills saw weaker shipments performance in surrounding areas, resulting in reduced outbound resources compared to before, causing a slight accumulation in mill inventories.

Next period, steel mills in Central China are expected to largely maintain their current production pace, with rebar production remaining stable.

During the survey period (May 26–June 1), the wire rod rolling line operating rate in the Central China region remained stable, while the capacity utilization rate edged down.

Specifically, some blast furnace mills in Hubei shut down one wire rod rolling line in the previous period, with fewer operating days this period than last, leading to reduced wire rod supply. On the mill inventory front, outbound wire rod resources from individual steel mills in Henan decreased slightly, causing mill inventories to shift from destocking to accumulation.

Next period, steel mills in Central China have no production adjustment plans, and wire rod supply is expected to remain stable.

[SMM Steel] Tight Billet Supply Holds Turkish Rebar Steady While Wire Rod Edges Up
[Turkey] Supported by rising billet costs, the Turkish long steel market held firm overall this week, though sluggish end-user demand prevented a broader price surge. In the rebar sector, after Karabük mill concluded large-volume billet transactions at higher prices, coupled with escalating fuel costs, mills in the Marmara region showed strong resistance to price cuts, pushing domestic rebar offers up to 580 USD/tonne EXW (excl. VAT). However, given tight buyer liquidity and earlier partial restocking, mainstream producers in Iskenderun and Izmir maintained quotes at 570 USD/tonne EXW, leaving export offers steady at 575 USD/tonne FOB amid subdued trading. In the wire rod market, buoyed by domestic price hikes from major producers, Turkish wire rod export quotes advanced in tandem to 585 USD/tonne FOB.

[Brazil] Brazilian imported flat steel prices remained largely stable this week, as surging freight rates effectively offset falling FOB offers from major origins. Hot-rolled coil (HRC) and cold-rolled coil (CRC) import prices held steady at 590 USD/tonne CFR and 700 USD/tonne CFR, respectively. Escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have driven up shipping fuel costs, counteracting the FOB price cuts made by Vietnamese mills amid sluggish Asian demand and falling raw material costs. In the domestic market, pressured by weak downstream demand, tight credit, and accumulating inventories, Brazilian ex-works HRC prices held flat this week, with no price hikes planned for August. Additionally, Brazilian slab export sales slowed this week, as major exporters finalized internal transfers to their own mills in Europe and the Americas at 575–585 USD/tonne FOB.
