CPCA: Retail Sales of Passenger Cars Nationwide Reached 989,000 Units from May 1-24, Down 24% YoY

CPCA released data showing that from May 1-24, national passenger vehicle market retail sales reached 989,000 units, down 24% YoY and up 10% MoM; cumulative retail sales year-to-date reached 6.594 million units, down 19% YoY. From May 1-24, national passenger vehicle new energy market retail sales reached 619,000 units, down 11% YoY and up 13% MoM; cumulative retail sales year-to-date reached 3.377 million units, down 16% YoY. From May 1-24, the national passenger vehicle market new energy retail penetration rate was 62.5%; from May 1-24, the national passenger vehicle producer new energy wholesale penetration rate was 63.6%.

2026 Power Battery Installations Expected Up 15.8% YoY

At the 2026 annual forum of the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, Ma Xiaoli, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center for Power Batteries, said that China's power battery installation demand for the full year 2026 is expected to reach 888.7 GWh, up 15.8% YoY. Of which, passenger NEV installation demand reaches 672.7 GWh, up 10.8% YoY, and new energy commercial vehicle installation demand reaches 216.1 GWh, up 34.7% YoY.
