[SMM Iron & Steel] Asian Billet Supply Remains Tight; Prices to Southeast Asia Expected to Rise Further

The Asian billet market is facing sustained supply constraints as major regional producers prioritize domestic requirements, leading to a further reduction in export allocations. Current offers for 3SP grade induction furnace billet have reached approximately $510-$520/mt CFR Southeast Asia. With Vietnam’s major mills maintaining high capacity utilization for internal consumption and Indonesian supply limited by scheduled maintenance, the regional supply-demand balance remains tilted toward a deficit. This trend is expected to push transaction prices higher in the coming weeks, impacting the global supply volume and reinforcing a bullish trend for regional semi-finished steel.

[Turkey] Recently, Turkish long steel giant Kardemir launched a new round of billet sales. By slightly lowering its list prices, the company rapidly attracted a large volume of domestic orders and subsequently closed the sale. MMi Daily Iron Ore Report (May 15)

Today, the DCE Iron ore futures showed a weak trend today. The most-traded contract I2609 closed at 809.5 yuan/mt, down 0.67% from the previous trading session. Port spot prices fell 2-5 yuan from the previous day. Traders showed moderate enthusiasm in offering quotes; steel mills purchased as needed; overall spot transaction activity was relatively tepid.

[SMM Daily HRC Trading] Spot Trading Continued Its Weak Trend

[SMM Daily HRC Trading] On May 15, the total daily HRC trading volume of sample enterprises across SMM's four cities (Shanghai, Lecong, Tianjin, and Ningbo) was 13,680 mt, down 830 mt DoD (-5.7%), up 16.13% YoY (solar calendar), and down 15.14% YoY (lunar calendar).
