[SMM Steel] SAIL awards SMS Group contract to upgrade billet casting facility in Durgapur

[SMM Steel] Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has awarded a turnkey contract to SMS Group to modernize billet casting facilities at its Durgapur Steel Plant. The project will revamp two existing casters and is expected to increase capacity by over 60%, supporting long steel production such as rebar and wire rod. Implementation will proceed in two phases, with commissioning scheduled for Q4 2027 and Q3 2028, alongside the introduction of new billet sizes and upgraded casting technologies.

By slightly lowering its list prices, the company rapidly attracted a large volume of domestic orders and subsequently closed the sale. MMi Daily Iron Ore Report (May 15)

Today, the DCE Iron ore futures showed a weak trend today. The most-traded contract I2609 closed at 809.5 yuan/mt, down 0.67% from the previous trading session. Port spot prices fell 2-5 yuan from the previous day. Traders showed moderate enthusiasm in offering quotes; steel mills purchased as needed; overall spot transaction activity was relatively tepid.

[SMM Daily HRC Trading] Spot Trading Continued Its Weak Trend

[SMM Daily HRC Trading] On May 15, the total daily HRC trading volume of sample enterprises across SMM's four cities (Shanghai, Lecong, Tianjin, and Ningbo) was 13,680 mt, down 830 mt DoD (-5.7%), up 16.13% YoY (solar calendar), and down 15.14% YoY (lunar calendar).
