[SMM Aluminum Flash News] Novelis and Infinitum Renew Recycling Partnership, Strengthen Supply and Decarbonization Goals

Published: Apr 21, 2026 11:08
Novelis and Infinitum have renewed their aluminium recycling partnership, shifting focus from pilot projects to scale and supply stability. The collaboration will expand recycling systems to strengthen recycled aluminium supply and support low-carbon production. The move also aligns with Novelis’ “3x30” targets to raise recycled content to 75% and reduce emissions intensity to below 3 tonnes of CO2 per tonne by 2030. Amid supply chain volatility, scaling recycling helps secure feedstock, manage costs and advance decarbonisation goals.

Vietnam's Dak Nong Aluminium Smelter Achieves First Power Delivery, Aiming for 450,000 tpy Capacity
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Vietnam’s first primary aluminium smelter, the Dak Nong project, has achieved its first successful power delivery, enabling equipment testing, integrated commissioning and preparations for pilot production. Developed by Tran Hong Quan Metallurgy (THQ) with NFC as EPC contractor, the project has a 450,000 tpy designed capacity and is being developed in three phases: 150,000 tpy initially, 300,000 tpy in early 2027 and full 450,000 tpy capacity targeted in 2027–2028. The electrical systems were successfully energised on the first attempt, marking a key step toward trial operations.
