SMM Apr 20 News:

According to the latest customs data, galvanized sheet exports totaled 1.157 million mt in March 2026, up 30.13% MoM and up 7.48% YoY. Cumulative galvanized sheet exports from January to March reached 3.2512 million mt, down 4.02% YoY.

By country, South Korea imported 187,000 mt of Chinese galvanized sheet in March, accounting for 16.14% and ranking first; Thailand imported 117,000 mt, accounting for 10.13% and ranking second; the Philippines imported 112,000 mt, ranking third.

March galvanized sheet exports were largely in line with earlier expectations. Ex-China consumption gradually recovered in March. Although Brazil imposed anti-dumping duties on galvanizing and galvanized sheet coils from China at the end of February, leading to a decline in galvanized sheet exports to Brazil in March, exports to South Korea increased significantly, keeping overall March galvanized sheet exports basically flat with February.

Heading into April, on one hand, continued geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are causing disruptions, and no recovery in galvanized sheet export orders to the Middle East has been heard of so far, with galvanized sheet exports to the Middle East expected to decline MoM in April. On the other hand, the US dollar to offshore yuan exchange rate continued to fall to around 6.8 in April, with the yuan's sustained appreciation putting some pressure on the price competitiveness of galvanized sheet export orders. Overall, galvanized sheet exports are unlikely to see significant growth in April.
