[SMM PV News] Eskom Extends 'SSEG' Registration Fee Waiver in South Africa

Published: Apr 3, 2026 09:56
South African utility Eskom has extended its registration fee waiver for small-scale embedded generation ('SSEG') systems under 50 kW until September 30. The waiver, originally set to expire in March, aims to encourage safe and compliant grid connections without deterring solar adoption. Eskom is also testing a new prepaid option for residential rooftop solar customers. While the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association ('SAPVIA') welcomed the extension for removing the financial barrier to compliance, it urged local municipalities to streamline their own cumbersome approval processes, which continue to delay the national energy transition.

India's localized PV manufacturing has welcomed another major implementation project. Avaada Electro Ltd, the PV manufacturing entity under Avaada Group, has successfully started production of the first phase 3GW line of its 6GW high-efficiency n-type TOPCon cell project at the Butibori Park in Nagpur. The remaining 3GW capacity is steadily ramping up and is about to fully release capacity. As the core segment of Avaada's local integrated PV manufacturing industrial park, this cell factory will also be equipped with 3GW silicon ingot and wafer capacity, filling in the upstream core material link, further improving the vertical integration layout of the entire PV industry chain, and significantly enhancing local supporting capabilities.
