[SMM PV News] Bhutan Seeks Private Developers for 100 MW Solar Capacity

Published: Apr 1, 2026 09:35
Bhutan's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has issued an expression of interest ('EoI') inviting private developers to build rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects on a build-own-operate basis. Applicants must be locally registered and contribute at least 15% equity. To catalyze investment, a green financing facility will offer a blended package featuring 65-70% senior debt and 15-20% concessional equity. The framework targets 100 MW of capacity across the commercial and education sectors, with the first 'EoI' deadline set for April 30. This initiative aligns with Bhutan's broader energy policy, which aims to scale its solar capacity to 1 GW by 2030 and 5 GW by 2040, following the launch of its first utility-scale plant in 2025.

[SMM PV News] RayGen Deploys 1 MW Solar and Thermal Storage System in Brazil
Melbourne-based RayGen has fully commissioned a 1 MW concentrated solar and long-duration thermal energy storage system in Petrolina, Brazil, in partnership with Axia Energia. The facility utilizes RayGen's 'PV Ultra' technology, which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto modules while capturing heat in a water-based storage system. This design achieves a 70% round-trip efficiency. Axia is testing the technology for potential large-scale deployment to help power 'AI factories.' RayGen already operates a commercial facility in Australia and is currently advancing a 200 MW/1,200 MWh utility-scale project in South Australia.

[SMM PV News] JinkoSolar Terminates Vietnam Solar Cell Project Amid 'US' Tariffs
JinkoSolar's Hai Ha solar cell project in Vietnam was officially terminated on March 11 following the company's request to halt development. The facility, originally planned for 4 GW of cell and 3 GW of module capacity with a revised investment of $294.2 million, had its investment certificate revoked. The decision was primarily driven by the 'US' Department of Commerce imposing steep antidumping duties (over 120%) on Vietnamese 'PV' cells in June 2025, worsening the economics of exporting. Despite this cancellation, JinkoSolar is not fully withdrawing from Vietnam and maintains around 10 GW of integrated n-type capacity. The company is reportedly pivoting its global strategy toward other markets like the Middle East and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

[SMM PV News] Italy's 'ARERA' Backs 16 GWh Target for 2029 'MACSE' Storage Auction
Italy's energy regulator 'ARERA' has issued a favorable opinion to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, backing grid operator Terna's proposal to set a 16 GWh target for the 2029 'MACSE' storage capacity auction. While endorsing the transmission system operator's overall strategy, 'ARERA' stressed the need for a prudent approach. The regulator advised that the actual auction volumes must account for evolving market dynamics, specifically any storage capacity that comes online or is procured via the capacity market between the proposed timeline and the official publication of the auction volumes.
