[SMM PV News] Lithuania's Solar Capacity Surpasses 3 GW, Storage Integration Key

Published: Mar 30, 2026 17:37
Lithuania added approximately 600 MW of solar in 2025, bringing its cumulative capacity to 3,040 MW, according to the 'IEA-PVPS'. Market growth was largely driven by the country's 170,000 solar prosumers, who accounted for 70% of total solar electricity production under supportive net-metering schemes. While technical permits have been issued for an additional 4 GW of solar, grid congestion has become a primary constraint. As solar and wind already cover over 68% of electricity demand, experts note the market is nearing grid saturation. Consequently, future deployments will heavily depend on energy storage. To address this, nearly 2 GW of 'BESS' facilities received technical permits in 2025, supported by public investment schemes for hybrid and standalone storage.

[SMM PV] Multiple US States Pass Legislation Supporting Balcony PV, Allowing Installation Without Approval
As US states began legislating to regulate plug-and-play PV technology, the industry is showing a growth trend. As of May 15, 2026, Utah, Virginia, Colorado, Maine, and Maryland had officially passed legislation allowing residents to use plug-and-play PV systems (also known as balcony PV). These compact, portable power generation devices can be plugged directly into household electrical circuits, providing a new pathway to access renewable energy for residents who cannot install rooftop PV or participate in community PV programs, particularly renters and apartment dwellers.
