[SMM Iron & Steel] Posco to Commission 2.5 Million Tonne Electric Arc Furnace in June 2026

South Korean steel giant Posco is finalizing preparations to launch a new electric arc furnace (EAF) with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year at its Gwangyang plant in June 2026. The facility features advanced energy efficiency technologies, such as utilizing waste gases to preheat feedstock, and is a cornerstone of the company's transition toward low-carbon steelmaking. To support the stable operation of the new unit, Posco is also expanding its local scrap storage capacity to 160,000 tonnes, with completion scheduled for August 2026
