The industrialization of solid-state battery anodes follows a clear technological progression, closely linked to the maturity of the electrolyte system: first, compatibility and improvement—silicon-based/composite anodes; second, upgrading and breakthroughs—pre-lithiation/composite lithium metal anodes; and third, the ultimate goal—pure lithium metal anode capacity deployment.

According to SMM forecasts, all-solid-state battery shipments will reach 13.5 GWh by 2028, while semi-solid-state battery shipments will reach 160 GWh. Global lithium-ion battery demand is projected to reach approximately 2,800 GWh by 2030, with the EV sector's lithium-ion battery demand showing a CAGR of around 11% from 2024 to 2030, ESS lithium-ion battery demand at a CAGR of about 27%, and consumer electronics lithium battery demand at a CAGR of roughly 10%. Global solid-state battery penetration is estimated at about 0.1% in 2025, with all-solid-state battery penetration expected to reach around 4% by 2030, and global solid-state battery penetration potentially approaching 10% by 2035.

[SMM Analysis: US Lyten's "Dip-Buying Acquisition" of Northvolt's European Assets Lithium-Sulfur Solid-State Battery Global Layout] Through successive acquisitions of the core assets of bankrupt European battery giant Northvolt, Lyten obtained 16 GWh of existing capacity, Europe's largest battery R&D center, and over 100 GWh of expansion space at a steep discount far below valuation. Meanwhile, leveraging its lithium-sulfur battery technology built on the patented 3D Graphene platform, Lyten's material system completely eliminates nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite, forging a technological path entirely different from traditional solid-state batteries.

[Solid-State Battery: LG Energy Solution Swings to Profit in Q2, Launches All-Solid-State Dry Electrode Pilot Line in H2] On July 30, 2026, LG Energy Solution announced its Q2 2026 financial results, with revenue of 7.6 trillion won and operating profit of 113.3 billion won. H1 revenue reached 14.1 trillion won, up 10.5% YoY. The company announced that it will establish a pilot line for all-solid-state batteries using dry electrode process in H2 2026 to accelerate product development and mass production preparation, but did not disclose details such as location, capacity, and commissioning time. Meanwhile, the company plans to deliver sodium-ion battery samples to clients in 2027. This move indicates that LG Energy Solution is accelerating its catch-up with top-tier players such as CATL, and the dry electrode process is seen as a key path to reducing solid-state battery costs. The industry timetable consensus remains semi-solid-state batteries in vehicles in 2026, small-batch all-solid-state battery production in 2027, and large-scale commercial use after 2030.

CATL All‑Solid‑State Battery: From TRL‑4 to Small‑Batch in 2027?
On July 29, in a reply on the interactive investor platform (HuDongYi), CATL stated that “small‑batch production is expected in 2027.” These two statements, separated by 36 days, were interpreted by the market as a “self‑correction,” but in fact they refer to different evaluation frameworks: the former anchors technical route maturity (TRL), while the latter anchors manufacturing maturity targets (MRL 7–8).
