December China bismuth trioxide exports retreated [SMM data]

Published: Feb 9, 2026 15:25
According to customs data, China's bismuth trioxide exports in December 2025 were 570.97 tons, while the export volume in November was 720.17 tons. Compared with November, the export volume in December decreased significantly. Market participants pointed out that based on the overall trend in export volumes, monthly exports of domestic bismuth oxide showed an upward trend from September to November. In October and November, exports returned to over 600 tons, basically reaching normal levels. Although exports in December declined somewhat, they remained above 500 tons. This indicates that bismuth oxide producers are still actively exporting, and overseas demand has not significantly decreased.

Landslide at DRC Tantalum Mine Kills Over 200, Disrupts Supply and Spikes Prices
[SMM Tantalum News] On March 3 local time, a landslide occurred at the Gasasa mining site in Masisi Territory, North Kivu Province, eastern DRC, burying hundreds of people. Local rescuers estimate the death toll exceeds 200, with specific casualty figures still being tallied. Currently, the mine is controlled by the rebel group M23, which, fearing airstrikes by DRC government forces, has refrained from modern mechanized mining. Due to supply disruptions of tantalum ore (Ta₂O₅≥30%), transactions have been reported at $210–220 per pound, representing a sharp price surge. As this news spreads through the market, coupled with the tight supply-demand balance, tantalum ore prices are expected to continue climbing, potentially reaching new highs.
