CPCA: China Accounts for 35.6% of Global Auto Market Share in 2025

The Secretary General of the Passenger Car Association stated that global auto sales reached 8.86 million units in December 2025, up 2% YoY. Sales from January to December 2025 totaled 96.47 million units, up 5% YoY. Global auto sales grew 5% in 2025, with China (34.35 million units, up 9%), the US (16.72 million units, up 1%), India (5.58 million units, up 7%), Japan (4.56 million units, up 3%), and Germany (3.16 million units, up 1%). China's share of the global auto market continued to rise, rebounding to a high of 40% in November and remaining at a favorable level of 37% in December. China's auto market share reached 34.2% in 2024 and 35.6% in 2025, an increase of 1.4 percentage points compared to the previous year.

POSCO approves definitive agreement with Australia’s Anson for North American DLE project
According to Anson on May 14, both Anson’s board and POSCO Holdings’ board have approved the terms of a definitive agreement to build and operate a DLE demonstration plant. The two companies will build the demonstration plant at the Green River Lithium Project site in the Paradox Basin in Utah, the United States. Through the demonstration plant, lithium will be extracted from brine produced from Anson’s Bosydaba #1 well. The companies aim to sign the final agreement within the second quarter and begin operating the plant next year. They plan to carry out demonstration work through 2028 to secure DLE technology.

According to Indonesian state news agency Antara and other local media on May 14, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Indonesia (HMID), met with reporters the previous day at an event in Jakarta announcing the winners of the “FIFA World Cup 2026 Test Drive Campaign.” He said, “Since establishing the Karawang battery cell plant, we have had a clear goal of maximizing the use of Indonesia’s nickel resources,” adding that “directly utilizing these resources in industry is a way to contribute to the national economy, and Hyundai Motor fully supports the government’s plan to expand incentives.”
