SMM Weekly Operating Rate of Primary Lead Smelters (January 30, 2026–February 5, 2026) [SMM Weekly Review of Primary Lead Operating Rates]

Published: Feb 6, 2026 14:52

The average operating rate of primary lead smelters in three provinces this week (January 30, 2026 - February 05, 2026) was 61.10%, down 5.31 percentage points WoW. This week, smelters in Henan and Hunan saw lower operating rates due to shutdowns for maintenance. A smelter in Henan may begin trial operation of a new production line after the Chinese New Year holiday, with a slight production increase expected in March. A smelter in Yunnan, affected by factors such as adjustments to raw material and lead metal production plans, started its regular February maintenance ahead of schedule this week and is expected to resume by month-end. Another smelter in the region implemented minor production cuts this week and is expected to enter a shutdown for maintenance next week. In other regions, smelters in South China and East China maintained stable production this week after resuming from routine maintenance.

Lead prices were in the doldrums, while secondary lead smelters maintained firm offers due to losses. Pre-holiday stockpiling by downstream enterprises had largely concluded, and a few had already entered the holiday period, completely suspending procurement. Next week, secondary lead smelters will enter a concentrated wave of production halts and holidays, resulting in sluggish trading activity in the spot market. Offers for spot refined lead orders were sparse, with prices moving in line with the market.

The domestic secondary crude lead market experienced sluggish transactions. As of February 6, 2026, the ex-factory tax-exclusive offers for domestic secondary crude lead stood at 15,250-15,400 yuan/mt. Downstream refined lead and alloy smelters gradually entered the holiday period, showing weak stockpiling willingness. Overseas lead ingot suppliers basically halted transactions with China due to poor consumption in the Chinese market, with only some previously concluded shipments maintaining normal in-transit transportation. The trading atmosphere in the secondary crude lead market will continue to weaken next week.
