T1 Energy Starts Building 2.1GW TOPCon Solar Cell Factory in US, Eyes Further Expansion

US photovoltaic manufacturer T1 Energy has formally commenced construction of its TOPCon solar cell factory in the United States, with an annual production capacity of 2.1GW. This project constitutes the first phase of its G2_Austin initiative, with mass production of high-efficiency TOPCon cells anticipated to commence by the end of 2026. T1 Energy stated that the initial investment for G2_Austin Phase 1 ranges between US$400 million and US$425 million. Upon completion, the facility will achieve an annual production capacity of 2.1GW. Subject to further growth in cell market demand, the company plans to advance Phase 2 with an additional 3.2GW capacity. According to previously disclosed information, the site possesses the potential to expand to an annual production capacity of 8GW solar cells.
