Guangzhou Issues New Measures for E-bike Waste Battery Recycling, Effective Dec 25, 2025

[Waste Battery Market Information] Recently, the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a notice on the issuance of the Guangzhou Municipal Management Measures for the Recycling and Disposal of Waste Batteries from E-bikes. Specifically mentioned: Collection units and utilization/disposal units for waste lead-acid batteries from e-bikes shall, in accordance with the law, complete the environmental impact assessment approval procedures, apply for a hazardous waste operation license, and adopt mature and reliable technologies, processes, and equipment; units holding only a collection operation license are not permitted to dismantle or conduct secondary processing on the collected waste lead-acid batteries from e-bikes. The storage period for waste lead-acid batteries from e-bikes shall not exceed one year; if an extension is necessary, it must be reported to and approved by the ecology and environment department that issued the license. These measures will take effect on December 25, 2025, and will be valid for five years.
