As "lubricants" and "buffers" in the industry chain, traders are important "price discoverers" in the spot copper cathode market. Against the backdrop of new copper cathode smelting capacity additions in China in 2025, many new copper cathode brands have been successively produced; traders have also contributed to cultivating these new brands. Against the backdrop of the US siphoning global copper cathode supplies in H1, traders actively coordinated supplies to assist industrial users.

To help promote the sustainable, healthy, harmonious, and efficient development of the domestic nonferrous metals industry, highlight high-quality enterprises, and set industry benchmarks, SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM) previously launched the 2025 SMM Nonferrous Metals Industry "Top 20 High-Quality Copper Traders" selection activity. This selection comprehensively utilized a multi-dimensional evaluation system: first, industry practitioners nominated high-quality trading enterprises; then, an expert review panel composed of SMM-specially invited metal industry supervisory leaders, industry experts, and executives from upstream and downstream leading and supporting companies conducted professional scoring. Combined with online voting results, SMM enterprise rating model scores, and other dimensions, the 2025 SMM Nonferrous Metals "Top 20 High-Quality Copper Traders" were ultimately selected.

On November 25, at the banquet of the Shanghai Metals Expo (SME) 2025 organized by SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM) and SMM Trading Center Co., Ltd., SMM held a grand awards ceremony for the 2025 SMM Nonferrous Metals Top 20 High-Quality Copper Traders.

Russia has officially extended its temporary sulphur export ban until December 31, 2026, according to Government Decree No. 785 signed on June 25, 2026. [SMM Flash] On June 26, the 100,000 mt copper cathode smart electrolysis project of Anhui Youjin Guanhua New Material Technology Co., Ltd. officially commenced production and yielded copper. According to SMM, the project is located in Guichi District, Chizhou city, Anhui province, with a total investment of approximately 835 million yuan. Currently, the company's monthly copper cathode production is about 10,000 mt, and once commissioned, the project will bring a certain increase to regional copper cathode supply.

Nigeria Announces Major Polymetallic Discovery Containing Copper and Other Critical Minerals

Nigeria has announced the discovery of a new polymetallic mineral province in Kaduna State containing copper, nickel, lithium, rare earth elements, platinum group metals and gold, describing it as one of the country's most significant critical minerals discoveries in recent years. The discovery was made by Steron Mining in collaboration with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA). At the same time, Steron Mining reported approximately 3.3 million tonnes of lithium reserves at its Abuja project, with total mineral resources estimated at 94.8 million tonnes. The Nigerian government said it will continue promoting domestic mineral processing and value-added development to strengthen its position in the global critical minerals supply chain. That infrastructure, power supply and regulatory challenges remain key factors affecting future project development.
