【SMM Nickel Market Flash】India Boosts E-Waste Recycling to Recover Critical Minerals Including Nickel

Published: Oct 27, 2025 17:40
【SMM Nickel Market Flash】India is significantly expanding its electronic waste (e-waste) recycling capacity to recover critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, aiming to reduce import dependency. The government has launched a Rs 1,500 crore (approx. US$180 million) incentive scheme under the National Critical Mineral Mission to support domestic processing of e-waste and used batteries. Currently, most "black mass" containing these valuable metals is exported due to limited local capacity. The scheme will directly support recyclers extracting minerals like nickel using technologies like hydrometallurgy and encourage the formalization of the entire recycling chain, from dismantlers to final processors.
