Henan Lead Smelters Restrict Vehicle Entry to Enhance Air Quality Control

Published: Aug 25, 2025 11:55
[Henan Air Quality Environmental Protection Emergency Control Information] It is understood that some large-scale lead smelters in Henan reported that starting today, vehicles meeting the National V (i.e., those complying with the national fifth stage motor vehicle pollutant emission standards) and below emission standards would be restricted from entering the premises. The restriction period was from August 25 to September 3. During this period, National VI vehicles (those complying with the national sixth stage motor vehicle pollutant emission standards) could transport normally, but due to the relatively small number of such vehicles, the transportation restrictions led to extended transportation cycles for lead ingots and scrap batteries. It is reported that last week, Qin Baojian, the Director of the Jiyuan City Demonstration Zone Management Committee and Mayor, conducted a survey on air pollution prevention and control work, emphasizing the need to focus on key tasks, tighten responsibilities, and go all out to win the battle against air pollution.

Guangxi Typhoon Has No Immediate Impact on Local Zinc Smelter Production
Affected by the 10th typhoon this year, "Maysak," many areas in Guangxi were hit by continuous heavy rainfall. Places including Fangchenggang, Qinzhou, Guigang, and Nanning experienced rainstorms to heavy rainstorms, with locally extreme rainstorms, causing severe waterlogging in some urban areas, surging river levels, and risks at multiple reservoirs. Based on this, SMM conducted a survey of zinc smelters in Guangxi and learned that production has not been affected yet, but severe port waterlogging has hindered the transportation of raw materials and finished products. It is also learned that in July, some lead-zinc mines in Guangxi have already suspended production for maintenance due to the impact of the rainy season.

Analysis of Maintenance and Production Cuts at Secondary Lead Enterprises in June–July
Recently, China's lead prices have continued to weaken. Secondary smelters have been broadly trapped in a dual predicament of production losses and a shortage of scrap battery raw materials. SMM's statistics on production cuts and resumption plans at secondary lead enterprises across the country in June–July clearly reflect the current pressure on the industry.
