To help enterprises in the copper processing industry chain get to know inventory and gain a precise understanding of market supply and demand dynamics, SMM Metal Database has launched a weekly inventory days indicator for copper processed materials, creating a comprehensive tool for monitoring the dynamics of copper processed material inventory!

I. Copper Processing Materials Inventory Cycle Index: Scientific Calculation for More Referential Data
The SMM Copper Processing Materials Inventory Cycle Index adopts standardized data processing logic. Based on the actual consumption of copper processing materials in the current week, it quantifies inventory data from various links in the industry chain, transforming scattered inventory information into comparable indexed indicators. This clearly demonstrates the match between current inventory and market demand, providing solid data support for enterprise decision-making.
Index Construction Formula:
Weeks of finished product inventories for copper processing materials = Finished product inventories of copper processing enterprises / Actual finished product output of copper processing enterprises in the current week * Number of days in a week
Weeks of raw material inventories for copper processing materials = Raw material inventories of copper processing enterprises / Actual production demand of copper processing enterprises in the current week * Number of days in a week
II. Copper Processing Materials Inventory Cycle Index: Multidimensional Value, Empowering the Entire Industry Chain
Copper Smelters: By monitoring inventory changes in the midstream processing sector, they can promptly adjust supply rhythms and optimize sales strategies.
Copper Processing Enterprises: Based on the match between their finished product inventory cycles and market consumption, they can control production and stockpiling rhythms, balance inventory costs and delivery efficiency, and improve capital turnover rates.
Trading and Distribution Enterprises: By leveraging the linked changes in inventory cycles between the smelting and processing sectors, they can capture arbitrage opportunities amid price fluctuations, formulate flexible purchasing and sales strategies, and expand profit margins.
Investment and Research Institutions: By deeply analyzing the correlation between inventory cycles, copper prices, and revenues of copper processing enterprises, they can uncover investment potential in the industry chain and provide authoritative data references for research reports.
III. Copper Processing Materials Inventory Cycle Index: High-Frequency Updates, Seizing Market Opportunities
The index is updated regularly every week (released every Thursday), capturing inventory dynamics at a faster frequency. This enables enterprises to seize decision-making opportunities amid market changes and promptly adjust business strategies.
From raw material supply to finished product distribution, and from production planning to market layout, the SMM Copper Processing Materials Inventory Cycle Index remains your "navigator" for market insights. Follow the SMM Metal Database now and let precise inventory management safeguard the steady development of enterprises in the copper processing industry chain!

Data Source Statement: Except for publicly available information, all other data are processed by SMM based on publicly available information, market communication, and relying on SMM's internal database model. They are for reference only and do not constitute decision-making recommendations.

BHP Awards Over A$200 Million Contract to China Nerin for Olympic Dam Expansion
BHP has awarded a contract worth more than A$200 million (US$138.8 million) to China Nerin Engineering to design and supply key processing facilities for the proposed expansion of its Olympic Dam smelter and refinery in South Australia. The contract will be executed in stages as BHP progresses project studies ahead of a potential final investment decision (FID) in 2027, with the equipment supply phase subject to FID approval. The expanded facilities are expected to be completed by early 2032 and form a key part of BHP's strategy to increase copper production in South Australia to 500,000 tonnes per year through the 2030s.

Ivanhoe Maintains 2026 Copper Guidance as Kamoa-Kakula Output Set to Rebound in H2
Ivanhoe Mines said copper production at its flagship Kamoa-Kakula complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo is expected to increase significantly in the second half of 2026, while maintaining its full-year production guidance of 290,000-330,000 tonnes. The operation produced 64,328 tonnes of copper in the second quarter, bringing first-half output to 135,745 tonnes. The company expects mining rates at the Kakula mine to increase by about 30% in H2, supported by the planned drawdown of up to 10,000 tonnes of inventory. Ivanhoe also noted that sulphuric acid prices remain exceptionally strong, with July sales contracts reaching approximately US$840 per tonne, a record high.
