From April 28, 2025, to May 4, 2025, SMM recorded a total of 23 domestic enterprise-won PV module projects that week. The winning bid prices for PV modules were concentrated in the range of 0.66-0.85 yuan/W, with a weekly weighted average price of 0.75 yuan/W, representing an increase of 0.06 yuan/W compared to the previous week. The total procurement capacity for the winning bids was 43.33 MW, a decrease of 927.59 MW compared to the previous week.

SMM News on May 6: From April 28, 2025, to May 4, 2025, SMM recorded a total of 23 awarded project sections for PV modules in China, involving multiple enterprises including CSI Solar Co., Ltd., Jinko Solar Co., Ltd., and Hunan Redsolar New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Among them, 12 projects disclosed their installed capacities. The main type of PV modules procured and awarded this week was N-type PV modules. The winning bid prices for PV modules were concentrated in the range of 0.66-0.85 yuan/W, with a weighted average price of 0.75 yuan/W for the week, an increase of 0.06 yuan/W compared to the previous week. As all the awarded projects this week were small-scale projects, the winning bid prices were relatively high, resulting in a 0.06 yuan/W upward fluctuation in the weighted average price for the week. The total procurement capacity of awarded projects for the week was 43.33 MW, a decrease of 927.59 MW compared to the previous week. Due to the fact that this week coincided with the end of April and the Labour Day holiday, the total procurement capacity of awarded projects was significantly affected by the timing. The clearly identified procurement capacity of N-type modules for the week was approximately 39.98 MW, accounting for 92.29%. Key awarded project information for the week is as follows:

  1. The PV module procurement project for the EPC general contracting project of the 200 MW agricultural-photovoltaic complementary power generation project in Taiyu Town, Binzhou, by China Energy Engineering Group Anhui Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Co., Ltd. The project intends to procure PV modules with a total installed capacity of 25 MW and a power of 705 W. Daheng Energy Co., Ltd. won the bid with an average module price of 0.75 yuan/W.
  2. The PV module procurement project for the EPC project of the 1.638 MWp rooftop distributed photovoltaic power generation project in Dalian Taiping Bay, which intends to procure N-type PV modules with a total installed capacity of 1.638 MW and a power of 715 W. Changshu Canadian Solar Co., Ltd. was the first-ranked bid winner with an average module price of 0.71 yuan/W.

[SMM PV News] Puerto Rico Rooftop Solar Hits 20% of Total Power Capacity
Recent 'EIA' data shows rooftop solar now makes up 20% of Puerto Rico's power capacity (1,456 MW), surpassing natural gas as the second-largest source. Between 2016 and 2025, distributed solar accounted for 81% of all new capacity. To combat frequent grid outages, residents have deployed over 171,000 battery systems (2,864 MWh), with many joining grid operator LUMA's virtual power plant ('VPP') program. Despite this progress, new legislation extended the territory's sole coal plant to 2032 and removed interim renewable targets, though the 100% goal for 2050 remains.

[SMM PV News] US Solar Faces Labor Shortage Ahead of 'OBBBA' Deadline
The US solar industry faces a 53,000-worker shortfall as developers rush to meet the July 2026 construction deadline under the 'OBBBA'. Projections indicate 355,000 workers are needed to hit the 60-70 GW installation targets, yet 86% of employers report hiring difficulties. The labor crunch is compounded by a mandate requiring 15% of labor hours to come from apprentices to secure tax credits. To adapt, developers are building internal training pipelines, targeting veterans, and utilizing digital tools to maximize efficiency.
