EU Approves €36 Million Grant for Cinovec Lithium Project in Czech Republic

Published: Apr 30, 2025 13:44
The European Union has recently approved a €36 million grant to be allocated through the Czech Ministry of Environment to the Cinovec lithium project, Europe's largest hard-rock lithium deposit. Operated by European Metals Holdings (EMH), the project is located in the Krusné Hory Mountains along the Czech-German border and has been designated as a Strategic Project under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act while receiving recognition as a Strategic Deposit from the Czech government.

This funding from the EU Just Transition Fund will accelerate project development, with disbursement contingent upon environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval by Czech authorities before year-end. EMH stated the grant will enhance economies of scale to boost lithium output and has appointed DRA Global to conduct a definitive feasibility study, targeted for completion by end-2025. Construction permits could be obtained within 24 months pending EIA approval.

According to EMH's quarterly report, the company maintained a solid cash position of A$4.3 million with zero debt as of Q1-end. As a cornerstone of Europe's strategy for securing critical materials for EV batteries and renewable energy storage, the Cinovec development will significantly strengthen the EU's lithium self-sufficiency.
