The foreign ministers of the DRC and Rwanda signed a declaration in the US. The DRC's Foreign Minister Therese Kayikwamba Wagner and Rwanda's Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe signed the declaration of principles on the 25th, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attending the signing ceremony as a witness and also signing. Rubio stated that lasting peace in the Great Lakes region would open the door to greater US and Western investments, bringing economic opportunities and prosperity. According to Reuters, citing the investment potential outlined in the declaration, the US government is negotiating to invest billions of dollars in the DRC's mining sector. The DRC is rich in mineral resources such as copper, cobalt, lithium, tantalum, diamonds, and gold. Additionally, Rwanda announced this week that it is also negotiating with the US on a potential mineral deal.
