Basingstoke, UK - 16 April 2025 - LevertonHELM, a prominent UK chemicals manufacturer with a near five-decade legacy of expertise in the lithium sector, has today launched a groundbreaking £30 million state-of-the-art Lithium Chloride solution production facility, marking a significant leap forward in the United Kingdom's green industrial strategy.

The new plant, located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, represents a substantial investment in domestic manufacturing and green technology in the region. This strategic project is expected to:

  • Generate a 50% increase in high-skilled jobs in the Basingstoke LevertonHELM facility
  • Strengthen the UK's critical minerals supply chain by the production of 10,000 tonnes of lithium chloride solution a year
  • Support the UK’s ambitious green energy and industrial policy goals

In a speech emphasising the scale of the investment, the economic and environmental impact, innovation and the future, and the importance of strengthening domestic supply chains, Stephan Schnabel, CEO of LevertonHELM, opened the plant earlier this morning alongside industry leaders, key suppliers, and select guests.

Commenting on the launch, Stephan Schnabel, CEO of LevertonHELM, said:

“This landmark opening signifies not just a new plant, but a strategic advancement for the UK's green ambitions and for LevertonHELM's future. This state-of-the-art facility underscores our dedication to innovation and our firm commitment to powering a sustainable UK by building a robust domestic supply chain for critical minerals.”

This significant development positions LevertonHELM at the forefront of the UK's emerging battery material supply chain. The 10,000 tonnes of lithium chloride solution produced annually will serve as a vital feedstock for the manufacturing of high-performance batteries essential for electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage. This move not only secures domestic access to a crucial critical mineral but also reduces reliance on international markets, bolstering the UK's economic resilience and contributing to a more environmentally responsible manufacturing ecosystem.
