Trump Administration Imposes 25% Tariff on Imported Beer and Aluminum Cans

Published: Apr 3, 2025 08:51
The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it would impose a 25% tariff on all imported beer and include beer and empty aluminum cans in the list of derivative products subject to aluminum tariffs. According to information from the US Department of Commerce in a Federal Register notice, tariffs on beer and empty aluminum cans will take effect from April 4. Data from the US Census Bureau showed that the import value of beer in the US exceeded $7.5 billion in 2024. The primary source of imports was Mexico, with an import value of $6.3 billion last year, followed by the Netherlands, Ireland, and Canada. This move will deal a significant blow to beer imports.

Offsetting Middle East Market Pressure: Southeast Asia and Europe Underpin Prebaked Anode Export Growth [SMM Analysis]
Overall, amid the structural adjustment of shifting regional demand globally, China's prebaked anode exports could offset the pressure of declining demand from the traditional Middle Eastern market through market structure optimization and a shift in order center toward Southeast Asia and Europe. Combined with China's stable capacity and supply chain advantages, China's prebaked anode exports are expected to maintain a certain level of growth for the full year.
