SMM March 7 News: This week, bismuth market prices showed strong upward momentum, with an even stronger trend emerging in the latter half of the week. Producers have been continuously raising bismuth selling prices. From transaction data, the pace of bismuth price increases has been steady. Notably, recent rumors suggest a significant rise in overseas bismuth prices. For instance, in the European market, bismuth ingot prices have reportedly surged, with transaction prices currently around $9.5/lb and quotes reaching as high as $12-15/lb. The rise in overseas market prices has positively impacted the domestic bismuth market, providing strong confidence support for the domestic bismuth spot market. With the sharp price increase this week, speculative buying interest has also grown. By the end of this week, SMM's mainstream price for bismuth ingots was 135,000-137,000 yuan/mt.

According to SMM's assessment, China's refined bismuth production in February 2025 is estimated to have dropped significantly by approximately 30% MoM compared to January. The continuous sharp decline in bismuth production has pushed output to a new low. However, this significant drop in February's production is understandable, as the beginning of February coincided with the Chinese New Year holiday, during which many enterprises halted operations. Additionally, manufacturers generally reported tight raw material supply before and after the holiday. From the production perspective, many producers conducted equipment maintenance before the holiday, while a few ramped up production during the holiday to prepare for post-holiday supply. As a result, a small number of producers saw an increase in output, but most experienced varying degrees of decline. Detailed data from SMM's survey of 24 enterprises showed that in February, 2 producers significantly increased production, while the rest either saw declines or relatively small changes. This led to a sharp drop in overall bismuth ingot production compared to the previous month. Consequently, many market participants expect that nationwide bismuth production will stabilize in March, with a likely rebound in refined bismuth output. However, considering the potential continued tightness in raw material supply, the extent of the rebound may be limited.
