Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Joyson Electronics has begun supplying key component sample for humanoid robots to a well-known robotics company, according to a press release it issued on Feb. 8 via its WeChat account. The move marks its strategic expansion into the embodied intelligence sector.

During a recent internal meeting, Joyson Electronics said it aims to position itself as a "Tier 1 supplier for both automotive and robotics," providing hardware, software, and integrated solutions to global automakers and robotics firms. Leveraging its expertise in automotive core components and advanced manufacturing, the company is accelerating its expansion into the robotics supply chain, establishing a second growth curve.

The market potential for humanoid robots is enormous. Citibank projects that by 2050, the global humanoid robot market could reach $7 trillion, with an estimated 648 million units in operation. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley's research highlights the vast ecosystem surrounding humanoid robotics, involving numerous companies and a wide range of applications. As the industry develops, its potential market size could rival the global economy, reaching up to $60 trillion.

In recent years, both automakers and automotive suppliers have gradually entered the robotics sector. It is roughly estimated that, over the past two years, more than ten major Chinese automakers have initiated developments in embodied intelligence robotics, while international car manufacturers are also making significant moves. Notably, several automakers already engaged in robotics are long-term partners of Joyson Electronics.

Automakers are investing in humanoid robotics primarily because of the technological overlap between smart vehicles and embodied intelligence robots. Both share core hardware and software, enabling synergy across the supply chain.

For example, autonomous driving technology—encompassing sensors, chips, radar, cameras, software algorithms, battery charging, and energy management—closely aligns with the technology used in humanoid robots. Currently, cost remains a significant barrier to the widespread adoption of humanoid robots. Large-scale production of highly stable components is crucial for commercialization. Automotive suppliers possess strong supply chain networks, engineering expertise, and mass-production capabilities, all of which are essential for enabling cost-effective, large-scale robot manufacturing.
