Motorcycle Production and Sales Rise Slightly in China in 2024, with Electric Motorcycles Declining

【Motorcycle Production and Sales Both Increased in China in 2024】
According to data from the China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycles, in 2024, China's motorcycle industry performed well overall, achieving a slight increase in production and sales. Foreign trade exports continued to rise, reaching a new historical high. From January to December 2024, the industry produced and sold 16.5645 million and 16.4562 million fuel-powered motorcycles, respectively (up 13.86% and 12.99% YoY). Electric motorcycle production and sales reached 3.4063 million and 3.4666 million units, respectively (down 35.32% and 27.96% YoY).

From January to December 2024, a total of 19.9708 million motorcycles were produced and 19.9228 million were sold, with production and sales up 0.79% and 2.82% YoY, respectively. During the same period, the total export value of products from motorcycle producers reached $8.831 billion, up 25.15% YoY.

Inventory-wise, destocking continued in Ningbo, Lecong, and Tangshan, while inventories in Shanghai and Zhangjiagang edged up slightly. Overall inventory was still expected to remain in a destocking trend. Attention should be paid to tomorrow's SMM weekly HRC balance. In the short term, HRC prices were still expected to fluctuate with costs, with limited momentum for further gains.
