In the very recent Science and Technology Award of China Environmental Protection Federation 2023, Chinalco Shandong received prestigious recognition by winning the first prize for its scientific and technological progress in the comprehensive red mud utilisation project "Green Technology and Engineering Demonstration of Efficient Production of New Powder Materials by Bayer Process Red Mud".

In recent times, Chinalco Shandong has employed new development concepts to strengthen the research on the comprehensive utilisation of red mud while prioritising ecology. The project "Green Technology and Engineering Demonstration of Efficient Production of New Powder Materials by Bayer Process Red Mud" encompasses a study of the physical and chemical structure of a complex element system of red mud slurry, innovation of technical methods for refining and drying red mud, and finding solutions for the technical problem of "sticking the neck" in the efficient utilisation of red mud.

The project has also worked on the innovation and manufacture of products using red mud, giving shape to a red mud-based industry model.

At the award ceremony, Chinalco Shandong shared its current focus on researching and developing red mud-based products and building a zero-emission demonstration project of the alumina bi-product. The company also confirmed that it would enhance the ecological background of the new aluminium industry and empower and increase efficiency for the construction of "New China Aluminium".

Red mud is a prevalent concern in the aluminium industry, for which many companies are experimenting to find ecological solutions. AL Circle, a committed media platform for the aluminium value chain, is also involved in researching valuable industry case studies and presenting them in reports. Recently, the team launched a report on "A comprehensive analysis of Bauxite Residue - Red Mud", covering origins, properties, and management strategies, significant incidents of red mud spillage in recent years, types of red mud generated in China, applications of red mud, red mud utilisation in China.

BoE Governor Signals Dovish Stance, Tolerating Inflation Above 2% Amid Economic Weakness
Bank of England Governor Bailey sent a clearly dovish signal. He noted that given the current economic weakness, the central bank could tolerate inflation exceeding the 2% target for a period of time. This remark significantly lowered market expectations for a rate hike in June. However, Bailey also warned that once signs of second-round effects emerged, the central bank's tolerance for inflation would diminish accordingly.

Eurozone Inflation Surges, ECB Signals Likely Rate Hikes in June and Beyond
The eurozone was facing a broad-based intensification of inflationary pressures. Specifically, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in France and Spain rose 2.8% and 3.6% YoY in May, respectively, both hitting their highest levels since 2024. Meanwhile, Italy's inflation rate climbed to 3.3%, reaching its peak since 2023, while Germany's core inflation also accelerated to 2.5%. Against this backdrop, ECB Governing Council member Simkus noted that a rate hike in June was almost a foregone conclusion, and that further rate hikes would "very likely" be needed thereafter.

US Fed Vice Chair Bowman noted that it was still too early to judge the impact of the Middle East conflict on US inflation, and that temporary price shocks should be overlooked. However, Kansas City Fed President Schmid argued that it was difficult to continue viewing the current energy price shock as a "transitory" factor, and that officials needed to clearly express their willingness to take necessary measures to maintain price stability. The Fed's Kashkari stated that it was too early to determine whether rate hikes were needed, and that all possible policy options should be kept open. Fed official Paulsen said there had been no structural change in inflation.
