Beijing (Gasgoo)- On June 27, autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai announced the launch of its paid autonomous shuttle service (Robotaxi service) at Beijing Daxing International Airport, becoming one of the first companies in Beijing to obtain a commercial pilot license for expressways with a safety operator in the driver’s seat.

This initiative marks significant progress in the application of advanced autonomous driving technology in key transportation hubs, including major train stations and airports.

Pony.ai's Daxing Airport Robotaix service adopts a fixed pricing mechanism similar to its urban services, with no additional expressway toll fees for users. In February, Pony.ai opened its autonomous airport transfer service to the public, expanding the reach of autonomous mobility services in Beijing to meet diverse needs. Users can book the service via the Pony.ai mobile app one day in advance, enabling travel between over 1,000 drop-off/pick-up points in the Yizhuang area and Daxing Airport.

In expressway scenarios, Pony.ai’s autonomous vehicles have demonstrated exceptional technical capabilities. They adeptly handle various situations, from navigating toll booths and ramps to dealing with temporary roadwork and debris, often outperforming human drivers in terms of speed and efficiency. Additionally, Pony.ai continuously enhances its service quality through meticulous vehicle management, improved in-car experiences, and streamlined ride-hailing processes, earning high praise from users.
