On Monday, February 26 local time, Israeli battery technology company Addionics announced plans to start building a copper foil plant for lithium battery anodes in the US from 2027. The plant is expected to invest $400 million, carried out in three phases. At full capacity, it can supply 1 million vehicles per year. According to the company's technical data, its developed porous three-dimensional copper aluminum foil significantly reduces the basis weight and copper content by 60%, and allows batteries of the same weight to provide faster charging speed and higher mileage. It is predicted that automakers can save $7.5 per kWh. The company's CEO told Reuters that they are undergoing due diligence and expect to receive relevant subsidies under the Inflation Reduction Act. The subsidies will be phased in, with $50 million in the first phase and a total of $120 million. SMM believes that given the plant's large-scale production time should be no earlier than 2029, the impact on the current copper foil export market is limited, but its technology is worth the attention of related companies.
