On December 22, the Hebei Provincial People's Government held the "Hebei Province Deeply Promotes Environmental Protection Performance A-level Work Conference in Key Industries" in Shijiazhuang. Luo Tiejun, vice president of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, was invited to attend the meeting and delivered a speech.

Luo Tiejun emphasized that while the steel industry is unswervingly promoting ultra-low emission transformation work, it is resolutely opposed to promoting “extremely-ultra-low" emissions. According to statistics from the Iron and Steel Association, the investment of steel in ultra-low emission transformation in the steel industry was about 450 yuan/mt, and the operating cost was about 200 yuan/mt. Now steel mills are struggling to break even. We must comprehensively balance the relationship between economy, ecology and sustainability, and properly handle the relationship between green environment and global high competitiveness of the steel industry. Second, China's total steel consumption reached the peak, and will definitely drop. While achieving ultra-low emissions and achieving A-level, we must continue to reasonably control steel output by keeping a tight rein on new capacity. That’s the point of ultra-low emissions.
