Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 22, 2023, BYD announced its plan to establish a new energy vehicle manufacturing base in Szeged, Hungary. The facility is set to be constructed in several phases, expecting to offer thousands of jobs for the local community.

The new production facility aims to incorporate globally advanced manufacturing processes and highly automated production flows, positioning itself as a leading global hub for the production of new energy vehicles, said BYD. The construction of this base is set to drive local economic development, foster technological exchange and innovation between China and Hungary, and leverage BYD's comprehensive industry chain to assist in building a green "ecosystem" within the region.

Hungary, situated in the heart of Europe continental and serving as a vital transportation hub, boasts a rich history of automotive industry development. With well-established infrastructure and a mature automotive industry foundation, Hungary provides an excellent opportunity for BYD to establish a manufacturing presence in this region, the company added.

Back on October 17, BYD announced an official entry into the Hungarian passenger car market, with three pure electric models—BYD ATTO 3 (the Yuan PLUS), the DOLPHIN, and the SEAL. BYD's two stores in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, officially opened their doors on October 19.

Notably, Hungary marks BYD's first entry into the Central and Eastern European market.

BYD, in collaboration with its two dealerships, DUNAAUTÓ and Wallis Motor Duna Kft., aims to establish a comprehensive service network covering Hungary. This network is designed to provide a seamless and reliable experience for customers, encompassing vehicle purchase, usage, and after-sales services.
