China refined zinc imports soared in September

According to the latest customs data, refined zinc imports in September 2023 were 53,100 mt, an increase of 23,800 mt or 81.52% month-on-month, and a year-on-year increase of 1,083.99%.

According to the latest customs data, refined zinc imports in September 2023 were 53,100 mt, an increase of 23,800 mt or 81.52% month-on-month, and a year-on-year increase of 1,083.99%. YTD imports through September were 257,400 mt, a year-on-year increase of 339.13%. The total refined zinc exports from January to September were 5,300 mt, with a net import of 52,900 mt in September 2023. The top three suppliers in September were Australia (15,800 mt), Kazakhstan (13,800 mt), and South Korea (12,800 mt). Imports of zinc ingots from Australia, South Korea, Peru and Mexico increased significantly. In addition to regular brands under long-term contracts, the reopening of the import window also increased imports under small orders.
