Global Economic Downturn Undermines China Aluminum Foil Exports In 2023 

Customs data shows that China exported 108,100 mt of aluminum foil in September, an increase of 5% from the previous month and a decrease of 9% from the same period last year.
In terms of export target countries, the top ten aluminum foil export destinations in September were India, Thailand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, South Korea, Mexico, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan. The quantity of aluminum foil exported to the top ten target countries accounted for 60.70% of the total aluminum foil exports.
SMM believes that although wars in some countries and other events may have promoted the demand for aluminum foil used in pharmaceutical and lunch box to a certain extent, the global economic downturn this year has restrained the demand for aluminum foil in overseas markets. Negative growth in aluminum foil export volume in 2023 is a foregone conclusion. The annual export volume is expected to be between 1.20 and 1.25 million mt, a decrease of 100,000 to 150,000 mt compared with the previous year.
