In October 2019, the province Party Committee and provincial government facilitated the establishment of the Yunnan Green Aluminium Innovation Industrial Park in Yanshan. The park has successfully established and integrated the whole industrial chain of green aluminium via its dependence on the 2.03 million tonnes of green aluminium project initiated by Yunnan Hongtai Company. Thus far, the investment has reached a total of RMB 28.7 billion, and it is projected that the aluminium industrial production value of the park will attain RMB 18.33 billion in 2023.
The Yunnan Green Aluminium Innovation Industrial Park is a collaborative effort between the provincial government and the Weiqiao Entrepreneurship Group. Its primary objective is to expedite the comprehensive integration of Yunnan's green energy and aluminium industries. The ultimate goal is to establish a green aluminium industrial hub with significant global impact, foster the creation of a world-renowned "green energy brand," and offer crucial assistance in propelling Yunnan's high-quality development to new heights.
Wang Qiaochang, full-time deputy director of the Yunnan Green Aluminium Innovation Industrial Park Project Construction Headquarters Office, stated that the park has introduced 18 enterprises, signed 26 projects, 15 of which have begun construction, and 9 of which have been completed and put into operation, with the total aluminium industry output value of the park reaching 11.9 billion yuan in the first half of the year. It accounts for 86.6 per cent of the county's total industrial production value over the permitted size.
“In the second half of the year, we will continue to grasp the solid factor guarantee, project construction and enterprise services, and strive to achieve an annual output value of 40 billion yuan for the aluminum industry, and accelerate the construction of provincial-level green and low-carbon demonstration parks,” added Wang Qiaochang.
Yanshan County completed the project land pre-collection in 5 days after Yunnan Hongtai Company's 2.03 million tonnes of green aluminium project arrived in the industrial park, and signed the contract to bring it into operation in less than a year. Simultaneously, the county Party Committee and the county government expanded investment in infrastructure building, such as power supply, water energy cycle, and park road network, and made proper preparations for upstream and downstream companies.
"We are with 'anodic carbon - electrolytic aluminum - aluminum water primary processing - aluminum intensive processing - aluminum application - recycled aluminum' and a whole set of industry chains." Yunnan Hongtai new materials Co., LTD. Deputy General Manager Miao Yongbo said.
Once operational, the Yunnan Hongtai "anode assembly workshop," a significant and bright workplace, will accomplish automation of the whole industrial chain. The building of the 2.03 million tonnes of green aluminium project is now in its final stages and will be finished by the end of September. Hongtai has made a serious commitment to encouraging the fast growth of Yunnan's green aluminium sector.
Miao Yongbo added, "In order to extend the industrial chain, the company invested 4 billion yuan, specially established the two projects of Hongyan and Zhialuminum, for our large flat ingot and hot rolling reserve the basic raw materials of the upstream front-end, for downstream customers to use our hot rolling, sheet laid a good foundation, this project will be put into production by the end of 2024, so that the entire industrial chain of our park will be fully opened up."
The aluminium water generated by the electrolytic aluminium workshop in the park is promptly transferred to a designated vehicle at the entrance and subsequently transported to downstream enterprises. This streamlined process eliminates the need for additional steps such as pouring ingots, transportation, and dissolution. Instead, the aluminium water is directly introduced into the melting furnace for primary and secondary processing through automated machinery. During this procedure, there will be a significant reduction in our expenses. According to Ma Yunlu, the general manager of Yunnan Innovation Alloy, the firm has assumed responsibility for 60 per cent of the aluminium water inside the park.
"We also have a cooperation with Shanghai Grangis automotive lightweight materials project, the main plant of this project has been completed, it is planned to start installation of equipment from October, and start production in February next year. In the later stage, we will cooperate with the provincial and state governments to extend the industrial chain and carry out intensive processing projects,” added Ma Yunlu.

India's Aluminum Industry Struggles with Supply Chain Disruptions and Rising Costs Amid West Asia Conflict
[SMM Aluminum Express News] India’s midstream and downstream aluminum industry is facing a severe crisis due to the ongoing West Asia conflict and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Aluminum Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI). The conflict has broken supply chains for raw materials and aluminum scrap, causing production in the extrusion segment to drop sharply by 40–50%. Against an installed capacity of 4.2 million tons, extrusion units are currently operating at only 1.2–1.3 million ton, while rolled products stand at around 1.5 million tons. Rising input costs, especially for aluminum scrap, combined with higher logistics expenses and cheap imports, have significantly eroded the competitiveness of domestic producers.

[Ceasefire Unlikely to Resolve Supply Weakness; Aluminum Prices Retain Strong Support at High Levels] Overall, the two-week ceasefire news was unable to reverse the firm pattern underpinned by substantive supply damage and low inventory. Expectations of tangible supply contraction triggered by attacks on Middle Eastern aluminum smelters, combined with low global inventory and the recovery of peak-season demand in China, will provide strong upward momentum for aluminum prices. In the near term, aluminum prices are expected to hold up well.

[SMM Cast Aluminum Alloy Morning Comment: Weak Demand, ADC12 Spot Continued to Weaken] Spot side, the ADC12 market continued in the doldrums yesterday. Affected by aluminum prices being in the doldrums and poor demand-side performance, market sentiment turned cautious. Most market participants slightly lowered their quotes, while a few enterprises held prices steady and took a wait-and-see approach. Currently, low-priced resources increased, the transaction center shifted downward, and prices showed a passive pullback pattern. In the short term, against the backdrop of marginally weakening cost support and limited demand improvement, ADC12 prices are expected to remain in the doldrums.
