Hercules Global has established a recycling plant in the Sandiara Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Senegal, with the goal of recycling used oil, end-of-life tyres and aluminium. The plant utilizes these materials to create lubricants, carbon black and secondary aluminium, which are commonly used in the automotive industry.
The facility is comprised of three distinct units, including a lubricant mixing plant with a capacity of three million tons per year, a tyre recycling plant that produces reusable carbon black, and an aluminium alloy plant. The products derived from the recycling process will be exclusively marketed and sold in Senegal, while the aluminium recycling products will be shipped to Toyota.
Hercules’ founder, Manoj Solanki, recognized the opportunity to contribute to Senegal’s cleanliness by establishing the plant in the country. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, freight costs were exorbitant, and Senegal lacked a lubricant manufacturing industry.
Hercules aims to position Senegal as a base for exporting their products to neighbouring countries, such as Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Gambia. Over the next few years, they plan to open showrooms and increase their presence in the region.
Hercules’ initiative to build the recycling plant reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. They are taking steps to address environmental concerns by properly recycling used oil and tyres. Through their efforts, they are contributing not only to the country’s economic growth but also to a cleaner and greener future for Senegal and the surrounding regions.
