According to the website Mining.com, the Zafranal copper mine project of Teck Resources in the Arequipa region of Peru has been approved by the country's National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (SENACE).

The company believes that obtaining environmental approvals is an important step in expanding its copper business.

The Zafranal copper mine is owned by Compañía Minera Zafranal, with Teck Resources holding 80 percent and Mitsubishi Materials holding the remaining 20 percent.

The copper ore can be mined by open-pit and processed by conventional beneficiation process. The estimated life of the mine is 19 years, and in the first five years after it is put into operation, it can produce 130,000 mt of copper concentrate per year.

In 2023, Teck Resources will re-estimate project investment and operating costs, and conduct detailed engineering design and permit applications.

In the first half of 2024, a project investment decision will be made.
