China Ferronickel Imports Surged 69% YoY in February 2023

China’s ferronickel imports spiked on both monthly and yearly basis last month.

Customs data showed that China imported 557,020.85 mt of ferronickel in February 2023, up 10.28% MoM and 68.75% YoY.

SMM forecasts a marginal softening in the Indonesian domestic nickel ore benchmark (HPM) for the first half of April 2026, with prices expected to decline by 1.37%. This downward adjustment is primarily driven by a $236.56/dmt drop in the HMA, which is projected to settle at $17,093/dmt.
