Government Work Report: 2023 GDP Growth Target is Around 5%

SHANGHAI, Mar 16 (SMM) - The first session of the 14th National People's Congress opened in the Great Hall of the People on the morning of March 5. Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders attended the opening meeting. Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council delivered a government work report to the session. According to the government work report, the main expected target for development this year is to increase GDP by about 5%; create about 12 million new jobs in urban areas, and the urban surveyed unemployment rate is about 5.5%; consumer prices increase by about 3%; strive to make income growth to keep pace with economic growth; make import and export volume quality improvement and basic balance of international payments; grain output remained above 1.3 trillion catties; energy consumption per unit of GDP and emissions of major pollutants continue to decline; and focus will be on controlling fossil energy consumption, and the quality of the ecological environment will be steadily improved.
