As the core hub of the national wire and cable industry, Guangdong boasts a complete upstream and downstream industry chain, robust intelligent manufacturing capabilities, and prominent geographic advantages for foreign trade. It deeply radiates into South China, Hong Kong, Macao, and key Southeast Asian markets, serving as a core pivot for wire and cable product exports and the internationalization of the industry. It holds a pivotal strategic position in the national wire and cable industry development landscape.

Currently, China's wire and cable industry is undergoing a deep transformation and upgrade, with both opportunities and challenges. Globally, overseas infrastructure investment continues to ramp up and the new energy power industry is expanding at a high speed, creating broad growth space for China’s wire and cable enterprises to go global and achieve international expansion. However, industry pain points remain prominent: core raw material prices such as copper and aluminum have experienced wild swings, heightening corporate cost control risks; severe homogeneity in industry capacity and intensifying low-price involution in the market are continuously squeezing corporate profit margins, and traditional production and operation models have encountered development bottlenecks. Amid this industry transformation, digitalized management, intelligent upgrading, and lean cost reduction and quality improvement have become key breakthrough paths for wire and cable enterprises to mitigate market risks, break through low-price involution, build core competitiveness, and achieve long-term development.

To fully leverage the advantages of the industrial cluster in South China, precisely address industry pain points, and boost the quality, efficiency, and iterative upgrading of the regional wire and cable industry, on July 14-15, the 2026 SMM (First) South China Wire and Cable Industry Chain Conference, hosted by SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM) and Shandong Aisi Information Technology Co., Ltd., co-organized by Guangxi Dasheng Electric Power Equipment Co., Ltd., and strongly supported by Solarabic, a new energy media in the Middle East, and the Guangdong Industry and Trade Development Promotion Association, is grandly held at Wyndham Grand Guangzhou Design City in Guangzhou, Guangdong.

The conference features a rich agenda and numerous highlights, including a company tour of Guangzhou Panyu Cable Group Co., Ltd., opening remarks, keynote speeches by industry guests, a banquet dinner, and other segments. Leveraging SMM’s entire industry chain data advantage and high-quality upstream and downstream resources in and outside China, the conference focuses on four core areas: precise market forecasting, industrial transformation and upgrading, supply-demand resource matching, and empowerment of overseas channels. It comprehensively assists wire and cable enterprises in South China to grasp industry development trends, learn from digital and intelligent transformation experiences, integrate high-quality supply chain resources, and broaden international go-global paths, consolidating regional industrial strengths and propelling the South China wire and cable industry toward a new stage of high-quality, high-end, and international development.

[SMM Shanghai Spot Copper] Looking ahead to tomorrow, which is the last trading day of the SHFE copper 2607 contract, SMM will continue to quote against the front-month contract. The current open interest for the 2607 contract is around 4,500 lots. SHFE warrant data show that warrants stood at 47,158 mt on July 13, which is relatively ample and sufficient to cover delivery needs. Supply side, social inventory has been declining rapidly recently, mainly due to low arrivals of both domestic and imported cargoes, leaving the tightness in spot circulation unchanged. The backwardation price spread between contracts in adjacent months widened to 180-340 yuan/mt, and the front-month contract showed notable strength. Additionally, some suppliers have already attempted to quote for the 2608 contract today, with standard-quality copper at a premium of about 300 yuan/mt, reflecting that the market still holds optimistic expectations for premiums after the contract rollover. Overall, supported by the backwardation structure and driven by delivery-related dynamics, Shanghai spot copper prices against the 2607 contract are expected to remain at a premium tomorrow.
