[SMM Construction Steel Large-Sample Social Inventory]

Published: Apr 10, 2026 11:36
Construction steel social inventory: According to SMM survey, total construction steel social inventory continued to decline this week. As of April 9, 2026, SMM construction steel social inventory stood at 6.6228 million mt, destocking 203,100 mt WoW, down 2.78%. During the survey period, downstream end-users in most regions maintained rigid-demand purchases, driving continued inventory destocking.

Regional social inventory: By region, social inventory performance across regions showed slight divergence this period. In parts of the southwest, steel mills increased shipments, shifting mill inventory to social inventory, causing local social inventory to turn from decline to increase. In parts of east China, frequent rainy weather during the survey period forced a slowdown in social inventory destocking. In south China, shipments were mediocre, but steel mills in the region had maintenance plans, reducing arrivals and accelerating inventory destocking. In north-east China, some steel mills switched production to steel billet, and social inventory also saw accelerated destocking. Other regions experienced largely normal destocking.
