Demand Growth Was Limited This Week, Total Inventory Continued to Decline Slowly

On the supply side, steel mills mostly maintained their existing production pace this week; on the demand side, rainy weather affected the pace of construction at outdoor job sites, and terminal procurement was mainly driven by rigid demand at low prices, with demand growth slowing. According to SMM statistics, both mill inventory and social inventory declined to varying degrees. Total construction steel inventory stood at 9.881 million mt, down 288,500 mt WoW, or 2.81% WoW, extending the trend of slow destocking.

This week, HRC social inventory was 3.4803 million mt, down 11,900 mt from the previous period, down 0.34% WoW, up 34.13% YoY, and up 21.43% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis. This week, HRC mill inventory was 1.1624 million mt, up 3,400 mt from the previous period, up 0.29% WoW, up 6.15% YoY, and up 1.64% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis. This week, total HRC inventory was 4.6427 million mt, down 8,500 mt from the previous period, down 0.18% WoW, up 25.83% YoY, and up 15.79% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis.

【SMM Steel】Mobarakeh Steel Co. said its facility sustained "another heavy attack" on Mar 31, the second since Feb 28. Affiliate Sefid Dasht Steel was also damaged. No precise production status was given. Sefid Dasht has 800,000 t/y capacity and supplies sponge iron to Mobarakeh. Before the attack, Iran expected the plants to resume operations soon.
