On March 17, Ni Zhen, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Energy Engineering Corporation, held talks at the company headquarters with Yang Bo, Secretary of the Fangshan District Committee of Beijing, and Di Zhixin, Deputy Secretary of the District Committee and District Mayor. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on deepening practical cooperation in hydrogen energy, energy storage, water conservancy, computing-power and electricity coordination, urban renewal, and other fields, and jointly discussed coordinated development.

Ni Zhen welcomed the Fangshan delegation on its visit, thanked the district committee and district government for their long-term support, and introduced the achievements of China Energy Engineering Corporation's reform and development. He pointed out that, based on its core businesses in energy and power and water conservancy, China Energy Engineering Corporation focused on major tracks such as new energy and new-type infrastructure, promoted the integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, and contributed to building China into a strong energy country. The two sides already had a solid foundation for cooperation and fruitful results, and are expected to focus on the construction of a new-type energy system and power system, deepen cooperation in energy planning and consulting, computing-power and electricity coordination, water conservancy construction, scientific and technological innovation, and other fields, and work together to serve Chinese modernization.

Yang Bo thanked China Energy Engineering Corporation for its contributions to Fangshan's development and introduced the current state of regional development. He said that Fangshan District closely adhered to its positioning as a "renowned area integrating science, education and culture, and a new city for new-quality intelligent manufacturing industries," focusing on leading industries such as green energy and new materials, and deeply integrating into the overall development of the capital metropolitan area and the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. As a main force in energy construction, China Energy Engineering Corporation has strong comprehensive capabilities, and both sides are expected to deepen cooperation in hydrogen energy, energy storage, new energy, urban renewal, equipment manufacturing, and other fields, promote the implementation of more demonstration projects, and Fangshan District will also make every effort to support the development of China Energy Engineering Corporation within its jurisdiction.

Gao Wujun, Zhang Qi, and Wang Chunnian, Deputy District Mayors of Fangshan District; Xu Lu, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China Energy Engineering Corporation; Pei Aiguo, Chief Engineer and General Manager of the Technology, Information and Equipment Business Division; and heads of relevant units from both sides attended the talks.

[SMM PV News] RayGen Deploys 1 MW Solar and Thermal Storage System in Brazil
Melbourne-based RayGen has fully commissioned a 1 MW concentrated solar and long-duration thermal energy storage system in Petrolina, Brazil, in partnership with Axia Energia. The facility utilizes RayGen's 'PV Ultra' technology, which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto modules while capturing heat in a water-based storage system. This design achieves a 70% round-trip efficiency. Axia is testing the technology for potential large-scale deployment to help power 'AI factories.' RayGen already operates a commercial facility in Australia and is currently advancing a 200 MW/1,200 MWh utility-scale project in South Australia.

[SMM PV News] Middle East 'LNG' Strikes Impact PPA and BESS Economics
Strikes on Middle East 'LNG' infrastructure are affecting long-term 'PPAs' and battery energy storage system ('BESS') economics, according to Swiss firm Pexapark. Lead analyst Nicolas Briet noted that supply risks from Qatar have tightened European fundamentals, visibly impacting 'PPA' valuations. A 10-year solar pay-as-produced 'PPA' in the UK saw a 19% fair value increase. Despite improved economics, 'PPA' transactions may remain slow due to buyer caution and rising equipment costs linked to higher energy prices. Conversely, 'BESS' is directly benefiting from increased intraday volatility and wider price spreads. Pexapark also reported 30 new 'PPA' deals in February 2026, the highest monthly volume since February 2024.

[SMM Analysis] Why 2026 is the Definitive Year for Long-Duration Energy Storage
Markets frequently mistake an industry's sudden breakout for its origin. China's long-duration energy storage (LDES, ≥4 hours) sector did not abruptly emerge in 2026. Following policy incubation (2023-2024) and initial scaling (2025), 2026 marks a definitive inflection point, driven by a validated, closed-loop business model and exponential growth in grid-connected capacity.
